dinner: small slice of ham and 1/2 piece of bread, baked beans, pickle slices, 2 deviled eggs, candied sweet potatoes with marshmallows and cinnamon, 1 regular coke, 1 piece of chocolate torte, a few pieces of homemade cinnamon candy.

Other Information:
My husband and I left our house at noon on Tuesday 12/23 and headed for the airport. Our flight was supposed to leave at 3:40 to Chicago, and then on to Dayton. We were scheduled to arrive in Dayton at 11 p.m. (eastern time), where my parents would pick us up and we would spend Christmas with my family in Oxford and Hamilton, Ohio. (Most of my family live within 35 miles north of Cincinnati). What actually happened was, our flight to Chicago was delayed for 4 hours. Since a friend had dropped us off at the airport, we decided to hang around the airport. When we finally got to Chicago sometime between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. central time, and found a huge mess. It had snowed heavily in Chicago all day and flights out were canceled. Around 1:30 a.m. we found out we could be put on the stand by list for the first flight out at 7 a.m. It didn't make sense to try and find a hotel - by the time we did, it would be time to come back. We hunkered down on the not so comfortable airport seats and tried to get some sleep. A girl on the bench across from me coughed continuously, babies cried, some guy was snoring loud enough to wake the dead. I'm not sure I actually slept. At 4:30 am, we got up and had breakfast. The flight we were hoping to go standby on was delayed and there was no way we were getting on that flight, or any other flight for the day. All flights were full, plus all the travelers from the day before who's flights had been canceled were trying to find a seat on these full flights. We decided to rent a car and drive. There were no rental cars to be found. My dad hopped in my mom's Escalade and drove 5 hours from Oxford to come and pick us up. We left Chicago around 7 p.m. (est) and arrived at my parents at exactly midnight. What an experience!

Fitness/Yoga
weight: did not weigh myself this morning
breakfast: coffee with 1 Splenda and 1 tbsp. non-dairy creamer, 1 glass of water with juice of 1 lemon
lunch: 1 serving tortilla chips, salsa, 2 thin slices salami, 3 olives
dinner: 1 sweet potato with 1/4 c. roasted marshmallows on top and 1 teaspoon honey, 3 crackers and 3 cubes of cheese
other: 1 cookie, 1 candy cane, 3 sugar free cough drops

Today's exercise: A very slow 10 minute walk, about a 5 minute ride on my new bicycle (this was a birthday gift that we picked up today - had to take her for a spin!), stomach exercises and 50 girl push-ups, vacuumed downstairs, cleaned up kitchen, finished up laundry. House cleaning has to count for something!

Other Information:
The last few days, I have been on a cheese eating hiatus. I love cheese, but normally try not to eat it. There are a couple reasons for this. Several years ago, I was having sinus headaches daily. A homeopathic doctor suggested I stop consuming dairy products and use a netti pot. Dairy products produce phlegm. Giving up dairy was not an easy task. I used to drink a gallon of milk a week, and as I mentioned, I love cheese! After about 3 weeks, going without dairy was not a struggle and my headaches stopped. Occassionally I indulge in dairy - cheese on pizza, or maybe on Skyline Chili when visiting Cincinnati, or on holidays when there are cheese trays present. We had a lot of cheese left over from our party, which I have had way too much of the last few days. I have noticed that I have a lot of phlegm (eeww) and feel like I have a sore throat and am sneezing a little. It is possible I could be getting a cold, but I don't have other symptoms of a cold. It seems to be from the cheese. Luckily, I think we have finished it off. We are heading to Cincinnati tomorrow. I will definitely have to go to Skyline Chili while at home, but other than that, I am going to do my best to resist.

Tomorrow I am going to use the netti pot (a small ceramic or plastic pot that resembles a genie's lamp). One mixes salt and warm water in the netti pot and pours the water in one nostril. The water comes out of the other nostril. Not very glamorous, but helpful for cleaning out the sinuses. Hopefully this will help with the sore throat.

Lazy Days

Fitness/Yoga
weight: 119 lbs.
breakfast: 1 egg, 1 piece toast (no butter), 4 oz. oj, 2 cups coffee with 1 1/2 packs of Splenda, 1 tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch: 2 chocolate chip cookies, 2 wreaths (like a rice crispy treat, but made with corn flakes)
dinner: cup of vegetable soup, approx. 10 cubes of cheese, a few thin slices of dried smoked meat, 10 small green olives
unnecessary evening snack: few more cheese cubes and crackers
Not as good as I had hoped to do, but better than yesterday. It's hard to eat healthy when there is a lot of junk food around. To avoid overeating, I don't buy junk. Sometimes I can't resist when I do buy it.

Amel and I walked to the mail box, delivered some goodies to the neighbor on continued on a slow and short walk around the neighborhood. My ankle is slightly swollen. I am still waiting for the day it is not swollen and no longer hurts!

Other Information:
Yesterday and today, there is absolutely nothing on my list that I MUST do. It feels rather strange. I keep thinking - "get up and do your next task," but, as I said, there really isn't anything that has to be done today. I am going to try to chill out and enjoy it. Tomorrow, I will need to do laundry and pack, pick up the car that was being repaired, pick up my new bicycle, and clean up. I still have not totally cleaned up after the party, but it will wait until tomorrow. For now, I will stay on the couch in my P.J.'s

free day

I am 3 days behind in my posts. This has been a super busy week. Let's see if I can remember what I have eaten the last 3 1/2 days:
12/17
my weight remained at 117 through Friday. I didn't weigh myself this morning, but it has probably gone up a little.
breakfast: FiberOne granola bar, 4 oz. oj, coffee with one Splenda and one tbsp. non-dairy creamer.
lunch:hmm...I am having trouble recalling
dinner: I think I might have eaten a bowl of cereal?
12/18
breakfast: FiberOne granola bar, 4 oz. oj, coffee with one Splenda and one tbsp. non-dairy creamer.
lunch: vegetable soup, one chocolate candy
dinner: lots of cookie dough and a couple cookies
I was baking for my party on Friday
12/19
breakfast: piece of toast with no calorie butter spray, coffee with one Splenda and one tbsp., 4 oz. oj
lunch: 2 chips with salsa, 1 piece cinnamon candy, 1 cookie
dinner: This is a tricky one. I am not sure I can accurate here - a couple crackers, 2-3 cookies, one roll, 3-4 martinis over the course of the evening.

I have not accomplished my goal of practicing yoga twice this week. I was going non stop everyday trying to get the house clean, finish the Christmas cards I was making that needed to be mailed and for people and work, getting ingredients from the store,baking/cooking for the party - whew! I think it was worth it. Our party was a success. Amel (my husband) and I had fun and others seemed to have a good time as well. One way not to eat much is to host a party! I was trying to mingle with our different groups of guests and never actually got a plate of food. I am making up for that today. I have given myself permission to eat whatever I want today. So far here's what I have consumed:
1 roll with two slices of salami and small amount of cream cheese
serving of "wienies in special sauce, piece of turkey, cheese ball on 2 crackers, 1 roll, 1 tbsp. peach jam, 2 cookies, 1 Coke. I might be regretting this when I get on the scale tomorrow, but I am enjoying it today. In fact, I think it might be time for another round.
Round 2:
2 cookies, mini pizza, 1 Coke

12/16

weight: 118 lbs.
breakfast: 1 FiberOne granola bar, 4 oz. oj
lunch: bowl of vegetable soup, 10 tortilla chips, 1 cherry cordial,
other: 3 peppermint candies
dinner: Subway - 6 inch veggie delight, no cheese, a little mustard, Baked Lays bbq chips
snack: 1 cup Reese's Pieces cereal with 1/2 c. soy milk

No exercise today due to our totally unorganized, chaotic school Christmas concert.

I have completed half of my exercise goal for this week, but didn't do such a great job on eating slowly and enjoying my food today.

Cards

Fitness
weight: 116 lbs (not sure how that happened after the dinner I ate last night)
breakfast: cofee with 1 Splenda, 1 tbsp. non-dairy creamer, 6 oz. oj
midday: 6 olives, 10 cashews, 16 oz. water with lemon
dinner: large bowl of vegetable soup, 4 cevapi, too much bread and kajmak
evening 1 serving Triscuit crackers, 4 oz. oj

Yoga:
45 minute yoga routine divided into 3 15 minute segments, modified sun salutations, lower body, and stomach. This is the first time I have done a full routine in over a month, I think.

This weeks goals: Complete two full yoga routines, conserve calories for our Christmas party on Friday night, in other words, watch what I eat and eat a little less than usual so I can splurge. Also, to eat slowly and enjoy the food that I am eating, rather than being in a rush.

Other Information:
My Christmas cards are almost finished. I have about 5 more cards to make and mail out. The only problem is, this batch of cards is 6 x 6 and I am trying to find a template for an envelope. I need to do this quickly in order to get the remainder of my cards mailed in time.

12/14's post a day late

coffee, with 1 splenda, 1 tbsp.
4 slices shaved turkey breast
6 olives
6 oz. oj
dinner: 5 cevapi (Bosnian sausages) on bread with kajmac (sort of like a cheese spread), large roasted red pepper, chocolate covered peanuts, glass of chardonnay, one rumpka (vodka, spiced rum, dash of amaretto), coffee with liquor
We cooked Bosnian food for some friends last night. I tried to conserve some calories during the day, knowing I would be eating a lot of calories for dinner. I don't think I conserved enough! Dinner was good and we had a great time with our friends. Sunday evening dinner parties are a good cure for the Sunday blues.

Saturday Errands

Fitness/Yoga
weight: 117
Today's Intake: one piece of wheat bread, 10 cashews, 2 servings of Triscuit crackers, one serving ajvar, 16 oz. oj, one piece of wheat break with 1 tbsp. peanut butter and jelly
Exercise: running errands

Yesterday was a busy day with work and then my husband's Christmas party
Yesterday's Intake: Breakfast: 4 oz. oj
lunch: small piece of lasagna, salad, one oatmeal raisin cookie
dinner: beef BBQ on a bun, rice side dish, cheesecake, 3 beers

Other Information:
Seeing as it is almost midnight and I was up at 7 this morning, I am sleepy! I have been running errands today - the bank, post office, dropping off a car for repair work, and finally, buying gifts for my family from the Bosnian grocery store that my husband would like to take to my family for Christmas. After errands, I did a little cleaning (not enough) and worked on Christmas cards, for several hours. I am done with cards for people I work with, but still need to make some cards for those distant family members that I feel compelled to send some Christmas cheer to in the form of a card.

Ode to satellite radio

Fitness
weight: 117 lbs.
breakfast: 1 FiberOne granola bar, 4 oz. oj, coffee with 1 Splenda, 1 tbsp. non-dairy creamer
lunch: 1 c. pasta with red sauce
dinner: oh, why did I say I would post everything I eat? 4 chocolate chip cookies (which are supposed to be for a Christmas party tomorrow), 4 oz. oj

Yoga - no exercise today, other than walking around at work, a quick trip to Costco, and a Christmas concert at church. My ankle is a little sore right now and it is almost bed time. I am out of time for exersicing today.

Other Information:
I have a 45-50 minute drive to and from work everyday. I have really come to appreciate the satellite radio in the Cadillac. This week I have been singing along to Christmas carols and really enjoying myself. Sometimes I am lost in the music.

yesterday's post

I totally forgot to post yesterday. I tried to remember what I ate, but may not be completely accurate
yesterday
breakfast: 1/2 c. oatmeal with fresh blueberries, 4 oz oj, coffee with 1 splenda and 1 tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch: red leaf lettuce, chopped cabbage, wheat sprouts, dried cranberries, grape tomatoes, approx. 2 tbsp blue cheese crumbles, approx. 10 almonds, 1-2 tbsp lite Caesar dressing
afternoon: Fiber One granola bar, small handful cashews
dinner: 1/2 acorn roasted with a drizzle of olive oil, 1 tsp. honey, 8 oz oj,
evening: 1 serving triscuit like crackers (8 crackers)

Today
Fitness
weight: 116 lbs
breakfast: 2 Kellog's blueberry Nutrigrain waffles, 4 oz. oj, coffee with 1 splenda and 1 tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch:1/2 acorn roasted with a drizzle of olive oil, 1 tsp. honey, 1 can V8 juice,
1 serving triscuit like crackers (8 crackers), grape tomatoes
dinner: 1 1/4 c. pasta, 1 c. pasta sauce, 1 large glass of merlot

Yoga
After school today, I came home and used my yoga fan to do a routine for about 25 minutes. This is really the first time I have done yoga since hurting my ankle. I did some modified sun salutations and did poses that put minimal weight on my ankle. I tried to focus on breathing. I felt very flexible today and was happy to be back to yoga.

Other Information:
For some reason I am feeling a little overwhelmed. We are having a Christmas party next week, we have a party to go to this Friday, there is a Christmas concert at school next week, I need a haircut and highlight, I need to finish my Christmas cards, and have a lot of cleaning to do. Really, I don't have that much going on - there have been many times when I have been much busier.

update

weight: 118 lbs.
breakfast 1/3 c. oatmeal with fresh blueberries, one tsp. wheat germ, 1 tsp. honey, 4 oz oj, coffee with 1 splenda and 1 tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch: frozen burrito with salsa, handful of grape tomatoes
afternoon: two cookies
dinner: plate of chopped lettuce, cabbage, with grape tomatoes, 2 tbsp. blue cheese crumbles, dried cranberries, approx. 10 almonds, wheat sprouts, chopped parsley and cilantro, 1-2 tbsp. light caesar dressing.

Minus the cookies, this was a pretty healthy day of eating. There seems to always be unhealthy food around at school, but especially during the holidays. I think the best advice is to plan out what one will eat and have an alternative to the junk food. I had some blueberries with me, but once I ate one cookie, I had to have another. Eating the blueberries probably would've saved me from the cookies.

Exercise: Not much today - running errands to the post office and Target. My ankle is sore after being on it all day and I am now on the couch, probably for the remainder of the evening. I am still taking some type of steriod for my ankle to help reduce the inflamation. I have another day or two until my doses are finished. Unfortunately, a side effect of the steriods is not sleeping well. I feel tired, but am not able to fall and stay asleep very well. Exercising also helps me to sleep better, of course, but I have not been getting much exercise lately. Before my ankle/tendon issues, I was getting in a groove of running and yoga two to three times per week. I look forward to being able to get back on a regular schedule.

evening: 5 oz. egg nog with 1 oz rum

Other Information: Technology is not my friend - What is one to do when her computer is reformatted and itunes is no longer accessable? Very frustrating!

Saturday

Fitness/Yoga
weight:118
breakfast: 1 Nutrigrain waffle, coffee
lunch: a few cashews, 8 oz rasberry kefir
dinner: mini pizza

evening: Bailey's Irish Cream over ice

Unfortunately, after my post yesterday, I had a little eating binge. I went to the kitchen for a handful of grape tomatoes and discovered someone had eaten them all. I ended up eatng a couple spoonfuls of Nutella, large glass of orange juice, and I think there was something else? It seems that once a month or so, I have this urge to eat any and everything I can find. I think this is happening in the middle of my cycle. I'm going to keep tabs on this to see if that is really the case.

I didn't do any formal exercising today, but did put up the Christmas tree, and walked around the grocery store.

Other Information: Marrying someone who is from a different culture is sometimes a challenge.

post birthday

weight: 117
breakfast: 1 Ego Nutrigrain waffle, 16 oz coffee with 1 splenda and one tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch: 1 frozen burrito, one piece of chocolate cake
dinner: left overs from Rigatony's - 3 cheese raviolis with meat sauce, 4 oz oj

Yesterday
breakfast: 2 Ego Nutrigrain waffles, 16 oz coffee with 1 splenda and one tbsp non-dairy creamer
lunch: red leaf lettuce with bean sprouts, dried cranberries, 1/4 of an avocado, grape tomatoes, approx. 2 tbsp. balsamic vinagraitte dressing
dinner: plate full of Rigatony's salad (lettuce, cheese, tomato, salami, dressing) 1 piece bread and olive oil, 3 cheese stuffed raviolis with meat sauce and 1/2 a piece of cappuccino pie - mmm...

Ok, yesterday and today have not been super healthy low cal meals, but yesterday was my birthday. They had cake at work today for the December birthday people and I found it hard to resist. However, I totally crashed in the afternoon. I really wanted to lay down and take a nap. I have not eaten sugar in large quantities in awhile and I could feel it when I did today.

I didn't do any exercising yesterday or today. Tomorrow will be a better fitness day, but everyone deserves to splurge on their birthday!

I went to see a podiatrist yesterday. He x-rayed my ankle and looked at it with an ultrasound machine. His diagnosis was tendinitis and carpel tunnel (sp?) of the ankle (it has another name, but I don't remember). He recommended I take a steroid pack for five days to bring the inflammation down quickly and said wear the boot another week or two until it feels better. I was totally relieved to actually know what the problem is and to have a doctor listen to me and do a thorough examination. Thanks, Dr. Beecroft! Just knowing the problem really lifted my spirits. he mentioned that running may not be an activity I should be participating in. We'll see how it goes once my ankle is feeling better.

Other Information:
As I mentioned, yesterday was my birthday. My kindergarten students wanted to know how old I was. I told them I couldn't reveal that information. They guessed anywhere between 16 and 100. I decided to go with 16 - They actually believed it. I love kids...

When I came home, there was a happy birthday balloon waiting for me in the garage, along with a small rose plant and really nice card all from my husband. It's nice to have a little romance every once in awhile. Inside the card was a picture of a pink beach cruiser. I have been wanting this type of bike for a long time. This week end I will be doing some bicycle shopping.

hypochondriac?

Fitness/Yoga
Weight: Didn't weigh today
Breakfast: 1 cup blueberry frosted mini wheats, 4 oz oz
Lunch: salad (same as last night) and half a plain sweet potato
snack: 1 lifesaver, 10 cashews, handful of grape tomatoes
dinner: 1 piece whole grain bread, 2-3 tbsp Nutella
weight watcher points - not sure 20-25?
1 tbsp of Nutella would have been sufficient, but at least I didn't eat the whole jar.

15 minutes of stomach exercises, 50 girl push-ups, leg lifts and stretching with deep breathing - I needed that to de-stress.

Other Information:
I am feeling stressed over my ankle. I have been on the verge of tears all day. I am not sure it is really my ankle that has the issue. My ankle area is less swollen, but there is a lump between my ankle and Achilles tendon. My blood vessels are larger than usual. My back is acting up today. When I do exercises, I can feel my spine is not completely aligned well and I hear some cracks and crunches. I am turning into a hypochondriac. I would feel better if I felt like my doctor, actually physician's assistant, had listened to me and given me some kind of diagnosis. After calling for two days and finally being very rude, I got the results of the x-ray taken over a week ago. My x-ray was normal. That's good news, but I really don't trust my doctor's office. I haven't actually seen my doctor in 2 years, just the assistants. When I do go, I wait 45 minutes in the waiting room, then another 30 minutes in that little cold room. I am all for nationalized health care. At least I wouldn't have to pay for incompetent care! It is time to find a new doctor.

detox benefits

Fitness/Yoga
Weight: 118 lbs
Breakfast: 1/2 c. oats with 1 tbsp. maple syrup (syrup left over from detox)
coffee with 2 splenda packets and 1 tbsp. non-dairy creamer
total of 5 weight watcher points
Lunch: frozen burrito - 5 weight watcher points
Dinner: 1/2 large yam with some roasted marshmallows on top, mmm...
plate of salad - red leaf lettuce, parsley, cilantro, green onion, approximately 2
tablespoons crumbled blue cheese, approx. 2 tablespoons light balsamic vinaigrette
dressing, some dried cranberries, mixed bean sprouts, grape tomatoes
weight watcher points - unknown. Overall, not a bad dinner
I bought some eggnog at the store and am really craving some. I might have a little before bed.

I think the detox diet, albeit brief, has helped me have a little more self control. It seems at school there is always food around. Someone is always baking, or bringing in snacks. I resisted the chips and salsa that were out at our meeting this afternoon and didn't overeat for dinner.

My ankle is a little sore from being on it all day and then going to Costco and Sprouts, coming home, making dinner, and cleaning up. I have a strange bulge around my ankle and the veins are really sticking out. I hope this is a sign it's getting better?

I exercised for about 15 minutes after dinner. I did a series of stomach exercises and some stretching. I practiced the crow pose and was happy that I am still able to do it (check out the picture on facebook).

While browsing Yahoo, I found an article with some tips for staying slim during the holidays:
http://health.yahoo.com/experts/eatthis/21200/5-secrets-to-staying-thin-through-the-holidays/

Other Information:
My husband cleaned the kitchen counter, and I mean the whole counter, with granite cleaner. This is worth mentioning!
