Fitness
Today marks the end of my colon cleanse/detox. This morning I woke up and had a headache. I drank the salt water mixture, then I decided to eat a bowl of oatmeal (1/2 c. of oats) and a cup of coffee. I didn't want to spend my last day of Thanksgiving break with a headache. For lunch, I had my detox lemonade, but really did not want to have the lemonade mix for dinner. I have had a sweet taste constantly in my mouth since starting the lemonade diet and, quite frankly, just looking at it is making me feel a little nauseous. I think I have had my fill. For dinner, I had about 20 nuts and a glass of water. Tomorrow I will start eating normally again, but I am going to try to count Weight Watcher points in order not to eat too much. I would also like to try to eat more natural foods that are not so processed.
The scale said I weighed 119 today. Two pounds lost on the colon cleanse diet in 3 days. Not bad - I consider this a little jump start after letting my eating habits get a bit out of control (maybe it was the giant bowl of Halloween candy leftovers).
Yoga
Yoga is on a stand still for the next week. I have done some stretching over the weekend, but do not want to put pressure on my ankle for the next week. The swelling is down and I am hoping it completely recovers soon!
Other Information
For the past two or three years, I have made my own Christmas cards. I started working on these today. I need to get the cards that need to be mailed done soon, especially the ones for family who live outside of the country.

dining room dilemas
Fitness
This is day two of my colon cleanse/detox. I forgot to write down my weight and measurements yesterday. I want to keep track of my weight on my blog and my measurements periodically to hold myself accountable for maintaining a healthy weight.
weight: 121 lbs.
bust: 33 inches
waist: 29 inches
hips: 38 inches
I thought I would have lost some water weight today by doing the colon cleanse, but I still weigh the same amount. My ideal weight is about 115 lbs. I feel most comfortable at this weight, but find it hard to maintain. I do not like to be above 120 lbs., so currently, I am a little over where I'd like to be.
If not for my husband, I'd probably be eating a Papa John's pizza right now. I have had six or seven glasses of the colon cleanse mixture today (see yesterday's post for recipe). I am supposed to drink 12 glasses. This would be a total of 1,200 calories for the day. It is already 7:30 and I still need to drink the herbal laxative tea before bed. I don't think I will drink 12 glasses today, but it will be close.
Not having my morning coffee on the weekend is a real bummer. Luckily, I did not get a headache from no caffeine. I feel fine. I don't feel weak or run down, but I do feel hungry! I have had to urinate all day and had several eliminations (you'd think I would have lost a pound).
My ankle is starting to look like an ankle again. It is a little sore today, but at least I can see that there is a bone in there. I will try to take it easy for the next week with the hopes of being fully recovered. I did some stomach exercises and a few stretching exercises, plus 50 girl push ups (on the knees, so as not to put pressure on my ankle). Not much exercise, but better than nothing.
Other Information
My husband and I went to a local furniture store today called "The Potato Barn." The store is literally in a barn and has rustic and old world style furniture. We found some pieces we liked and the prices seemed reasonable. This may be the place where we purchase our dining room table and chairs ($195 for a dining chair verses $1,000 a chair at Norwood Furniture).

how's it going?
FITNESS
Right now, I am HUNGRY! My husband and I started a colon cleanse/detox today. We started after breakfast. Actually, I walked downstairs to find find my husband finishing off the last of his favorite dessert, so I decided I'd have some breakfast. Then we started our cleanse.
The recipe for the colon cleanse is 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice, 2 tbsp. organic maple syrup, grade B, and 1/10 tsp. ground cayenne pepper mixed into 8 oz. of room temperature water. Drink at least 12 glasses throughout the day. That's it - no other food or drinks for 10 days. Also, drink a cup of herbal, laxative tea before bed and sea salt mixed into a quart of water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Currently, I am wishing for a huge meal. I smelled food while out shopping today. I see food on T.V. (I am watching season 6 of CSI). I would love to eat a pizza from Papa John's. I hope to continue the cleanse for at least a few days, if not the full ten days. My goal is to be healthier, clear out toxins from my system, loose a few pounds from over indulging the last couple months, and get back on track as far as my eating habits.
My ankle is a little less swollen today. I bought a brace yesterday. My cousin had a boot (which the dr. had suggested I wear for ten days, but would've cost me $200, so I decided not to get one). I wore the boot while I went in search of bargains today. Now another part of my foot is sore, but my ankle seems a little better!
YOGA
I ordered something called a Yoga Fan from Title Nine. It came in the mail today. Basically, it is a set of cards with information about yoga poses. One can go through all the poses in 90 minutes, or choose to do less poses. I purchased this to learn some new poses and maybe to create my own routines. I read through the fan today, but didn't do any yoga. I plan to try to get some exercise tomorrow. Most of the poses I was already familiar with, but there are a few new ones to try and practice.
OTHER INFORMATION
We went to revisit a table today, hoping for a good sale. The table is at Norwood Furniture, but the sale was not so hot, so...still no dining room table. A new table that fits our house and more than four guests is on the top of my priority list, but my accountant a.k.a. my husband is being very "practical." We have used up our house budget for 2008 and looks like we'll have to wait a few months into 2009 for the table.

looking forward
We are in preparation for the holiday tomorrow. My husband just made his favorite dessert and I made a cranberry salad, along with 3 types of Ratafea (fruit infused vodka drinks :-)). Knowing that my 10 day detox is coming up, I am thinking I should be eating up now! I'm actually not craving anything in particular.
I was on my foot a lot today at work, as we had a busy day of Thanksgiving fun. The swelling in my ankle seems about the same and I still have not received the results of the x-ray I had on Monday. I think I will get an ankle brace in the meantime.
Tomorrow I plan a day of enjoying delicious food, drinks and time with family and friends. I am looking forward to getting back on track, at least partially, on Friday.

Tuesday
A mundane title for a mundane fitness day. I am laying on the couch covered with a little blanket and just finished watching the movie Mongul. While I enjoyed the movie, I didn't do much to enhance my fitness. I think that will be the case for at least the next 9 days. My ankle is still swollen and was actually more sore today than it has been the past week. I am really trying to stay off of it at work, as much as possible, and then resting it once I am home. I considered doing some stomach exercises and floor exercises today, but once I hit the couch, that was it.
Two more days and then the cleansing begins.

Frustration
I have always wanted to run a half-marathon. That sounds like a strange thing for me to say, because I really don't enjoy running all that much. I believe running 13.1 miles has a lot to do with a person's mental status, ability to commit to a project, and dedication. Even though running is not my favorite thing to do, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, at least once.
Approximately 6-8 weeks ago, I decided to start training for a half-marathon. My goal was to run a race in April. About ten days ago I went running and increased my distance to 3 miles. I was happy with my progress, but was feeling a little pain in my lower calf/ankle. I skipped a day, and then ran again. During this run, I had to stop a couple of times due to pain. The next day my ankle was swollen and hurting. Since then I have tried to rest it - slightly difficult as I am a teacher and on my feet all day. I finally went to the doctor today after seeing no improvement. He said it is most likely not broken and probably some soft tissue damage. I had an x-ray to be sure and should have the results in a couple of days. His advice - stay off of it for 10 days.
Right... I will do my best to sit down at work as much as possible and rest it when I get home. This is super frustrating for me. I felt like I was making progress with running, maybe even liking it a little, as well as making progress with some yoga poses I have been practicing. I like to be active and feel really stressed when I cannot exercise. We'll see how it goes.
On another note, the day after Thanksgiving, my husband and I are going to try a colon cleanse/detox. The plan is to do this for a ten day period.
A goal I have for this journal is to use it to make goals and track my fitness progress. It seems I am always wanting to loose those last five pounds...The day after Thanksgiving, I am going to take my measurements and start documenting what I eat on a daily basis. I am hoping this will make me more accountable for what I eat, and for eating healthier. I am going to go finish the snack and the drink I started before writing this post. Luckily, I don't have to post it until after Thanksgiving!

My First Post
I have always wanted to consistently keep a journal, but have not been very successful. I have heard that successful people keep a journal, people such as Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and who hasn't heard of the Diary of Ann Frank?. I have been leary about starting a blog - honestly, I am a little embarrassed to have others read what I write.
For my blog, I have decided to focus on writing about fitness and yoga, which are my main interests and hobbies. I have included "other info..." as part of my title because I think it will be interesting to share some other issues affecting the life of a 30 something woman. See you soon!
