lackluster
I only did the warm up section of my DVD tonight and feel guilty about it, although not guilty enough to finish it. My back is hurting today. Yesterday I was relatively pain free until after going for a walk and then stretching. Hopefully tomorrow I will have more energy and get my full work out in, before leaving for Vegas.

What happened to Tuesday?
Two weeks in a row, I have woken up on Wednesday thinking it was Tuesday - Surprise! Where are the days of summer going?
Late Monday we had some guests arrive. My husband's best friend and his fiance. They stayed less then 24 hours, as they off the next morning to Vegas to settle their wedding plans. We look forward to seeing them again this weekend in Vegas. After the wedding, they will again be our guests for a couple of days, before heading back to Russia.
I worked hard over the weekend and Monday cleaning/cooking, getting ready for guests. Tuesday we all slept in a little and had lunch for breakfast (New York Strip steaks and eggs). I had our guests at the car rental place around 2 and by 2:30 they were on their way. I spent the rest of my day lounging, I guess thinking it was Monday. There was no exercising going on Tuesday.
I did do 45-50 minutes of yoga today along with some ab work. Today I practiced along with a Bryan Kest DVD. Last week I did the Level 1 section 4 times. This week I am doing the Level 2 and plan on Level 3 next week. As I mentioned in my last post, I am trying to build back strength and regain flexibility.
Doing poses, especially Sun Salutations with bent knees, along with avoiding back bends seems to be lessening some of the back pain I have been having. Next week I start back to work. I am planning on writing down what I eat in order to keep from over eating. Last year the school fed us breakfast and lunch and I think I gained a few pounds. This year, I am not allowing that to happen! (hopefully)
In order to meet my goal of yoga 4 times, I need to practice tomorrow AND Friday before leaving for Vegas.

Starting Over, Again.
I love the idea of a journal or blogging, I just seem to go in spurts.
I just finished about 50 minutes of yoga. The last two weeks, I practiced yoga 4 times a week and hope to do the same this week. Before that, it had been a few months since practicing regularly. The past year and a half to two years, it seems I have been plagued with injury, nothing life threatening, but still rather annoying for an active person.
I had a broken pinky toe, which sounds like nothing, but can hinder one's yoga practice a great deal - who knew little toes were so vital? After that, I injured my back lifting boxes when we moved into our house and have had back pain on a daily basis since. My husband is skeptical of chiropractors and massage therapists, or maybe he is just skeptical of spending money, so I have been putting off getting help in the hopes the pain will just go away on its own. The last few months I have been when I get up from sitting and cannot lay on my stomach. On top of that, I developed a stress fracture in my ankle that went undiagnosed for about 6 months. Ugh...Wearing a walking boot for weeks really takes a toll on the hips and back.
Today I discovered I can still come up with a flat spine while doing sun salutations, but can avoid some back pain by bending my knees. I am avoiding any tyoe of back bend right now. I am not sure if it would help to stretch my back or cause it to hurt worse, but we will see how I feel tomorrow after bending my knees when coming up flat today and avoiding back bends.
On a positive note, I am noticing that I am regaining some strength. I was amazed at how quickly strength and flexibility are lost. We spent over 3 weeks in Europe in July, during which time I did not do any yoga. I could hardly touch my toes during my first yoga workout and had a hard time with doing a push up into down dog! I am avoiding up dog right now as it is a backbend position, but am happy those push ups are getting easier again. One day at a time.
